Healing with roses
Historical research shows that roses have not even been valued from the Greek and Romans in the ancient times for their healing powers but also thousands of years ago from monks, healers and medical practitioniers in Asia, Egypt and Arabia. Besides other naturopathic treatments, Ayurveda, the worlds oldest health system, originated in ancient India, has valued roses higly. Especially in beauty care as well as in Ayurvedic Cuisine they have been used. In Ayurveda roses are crushed, juced, grinded and dried for herbal remedies, skin care recipes, teas, and aromatic oils. The rose is a tridoshic flower. So it is beneficial in curing different imbalances of all the three doshas/bio-energies called Vata, Pitta and Kapha which govern the human body . For example is rose water suitable for all skin types. But it is specifically calming the pitta dosha, the thermogenic bio-energy, responsible for digestion, metabolism and sensation as well as connected to heat, anger, ambition and stress.
Regular use of Rose Water on face and it’s effects:
– Rose water cools, moisturizes and tones the skin through vitamines like A and C. By providing the pores with hydration the skin is being freshed up.
– It increases the glow and complexion of the skin.
– Longer use of rose water can prevent skin imbalance and skin eruption as well as can reduce skin breakouts.
– It is antibacterial soothing, healing and antiseptic. Rose water purefies the skin and protects it from bacterial infections.
– Through use of rose water the skin’s pH level becomes balanced.
– If rose water is used regularly, wrinkles can be reduced.
– Since it soothes redness or inflamation in skin it helps with skin irritations and sun burns.
– It is removing dark circles while refreshing tired and stressed eyes. A good result is achieved if one applies rose water under the eyes, every night before sleeping.
– It soothe burning eyes: It reduces inflamed eyes and enlivens them again. It is best to do as follows: Soak two pads of cotton wool into organic rose water and then place them for 10 min over the eyelids
– It can relieve from headache and dizziness.
Other uses of Rose Water and it’s effects:
– It balances the Heart Chakra and emotions.
– Rose water intake cleanses the body of toxins as well as it soothe the digestive system. Moreover it has sweet and astringent qualities therefore it is used traditionally in Ayurvedic Cuisine.
– Rose water can be added besides rose petals to the bath water for relaxation since it has a de- stressing effect.
Rose fragrance and it’s effects:
– Rose fragrance has a strong antidepressant and antianxiety effect which can uplift the mood through relaxing the nervous system. So it can give relieve if there are fears, anger or any kind of moodswings. It can release from stress which is often a root cause for feeling imbalanced. So at any moment when it is required some rose essential oil can be sprinkled on a handkerchief and inhaled. This will sweeten the mood.
– It balances the Heart Chakra as well as the hormones.
– It supports a deep and restfull sleep. Just sprinkle a few drops of rose water on your pillow before going to bed.
– Organic rose water added with some rose pedals to the bath helps to gain deeper relaxation.
Rose oil and it’s effects:
Rose oil can help to improve the quality of meditation. Before you start meditation, simply apply a drop of rose essential oil, on the forehead, between the eyebrows.
– It balances Sadhaka Pitta (a sub-dosha of Pitta) which regulates emotions and functions of the heart and mind as well as Prana Vata (one of the 5 types of Vata) which governs the movements of the mind and it’s thoughts.
– Applied and smelled it can relieve from headache or dizziness.
– A gentle massage with rose oil can give a warm feeling to the heart.
Generally:
– The rose petals have a specific effect on the tissues/dhatus: plasma/rasa, blood/rakta and nerves/majja as well as on the systems/srotas: circulation, nerves as femal genital system.
– It is recommended to only use organic roses or organic rose products to avoid pesticides and toxins.

Recipes:
A Wonderful Facemask:
Mix sandalwood powder with rose water to a paste and apply it on the face (spare the eyes area), let it dry and then remove it gently with water. Afterwards apply a nourishing cream according your skin type.
Rosewater Lemonade:
1/8 lemon
1 tsp. Raw sugar
1/2 tsp. Rose Water
2 cups Water
Mix all ingredients together and enjoy! The drink can be cooled as well.
How to make the own organic rosewater:
Let for 15 to 20 min 6 cups of organic red rose petals simmer in a quart of distilled water or spring water. After that let it cool down, strain it into a glass bottle and refrigerate it.
